Stuck in Fight or Flight? We Can Fix That!
 

Join Gwendolyn Alker and the Block Island Free Library for a series of micro-workshops on how to use yoga—including self-study, breathwork, poses and discipline—to get back into balance with your body. Times are stressful! We are all stuck in our sympathetic nervous system. Lessons for modern anatomy as well as ancient yoga techniques can get us back to ourselves, where subconscious challenges can be met with thoughtful tools. 

Join us for a series of three 90 minute workshops throughout the summer months. Take all or just one—classes will offer techniques that can be used together or independently. All classes will include light asana (or poses) and culminate with deep relaxation. Please bring warm clothes and a mat if you have one. See schedule below. All classes are free and held at the Block Island Free Library.

​Class I Friday, June 27th, 8:30-10:00am: BREATH
This class will dive more deeply into pranayama, or yogic breathing, to cultivate focus and energy regulation.
 
Class II Friday, July 18th, 8:30-10:00am: MIND/BODY
This class will focus on the nervous system and its connection to fight or flight. We will learn how to release the psoas the main muscle connected to the system of fight or flight. Please bring socks.
 
Class III: Friday, August 15th, 8:30-10:00am: RELAX
This will be a restorative class that uses breathwork and restorative poses—integrating some of the tools we have learned thus far—to foster deep relaxation. Please bring pillows and blankets.​
​Gwendolyn Alker runs Block Island Yoga and started teaching asana in NYC 2000, and for the Block Island community since 2007. In the winter months she is an Associate Arts Professor in the Drama Department, TSOA/NYU.
